About the Role We're seeking an exceptional Engineering Manager to join our team at sofatutor GmbH, a leading digital learning platform that empowers over a million students, parents, and educators to learn and teach effectively. As a remote team working across EMEA, you'll be responsible for leading a cross-functional engineering team and driving successful delivery of our products. Key Responsibilities • Lead a high-performing engineering team, setting clear goals and priorities while fostering a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and high-quality outcomes. • Coach engineers, set growth plans, and establish effective feedback and performance routines to drive individual and team growth. • Collaborate with product, design, content, and technical leaders to define roadmaps, prioritize features, and drive successful delivery. • Establish and maintain agile rituals, quality standards, and processes to ensure efficient delivery and high-quality outcomes. • Identify opportunities for AI adoption in engineering and enable your team to implement solutions responsibly. Requirements • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or Team Lead in agile software teams, with a proven track record of people leadership. • Demonstrated experience in hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers through coaching, feedback, and growth frameworks. • Practical experience in large-scale web development projects, preferably with Ruby on Rails. • Strong programming skills in Ruby and/or JavaScript, with the ability to lead architecture and code quality discussions. • Excellent understanding of software development processes, testing, deployment, and modern delivery cultures. • Proficiency in English (C2 level). • Passion for AI development and a willingness to drive innovation in your team. Nice to Have • Experience with scaling engineering teams and establishing structures that enable growth. • Familiarity with DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. • Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure and containerization technologies.
